France Trip Day 8: A Family Gathering

Back in Rennes, many members of the Foucher family gathered for a midday dinner. Monsieur and Madame Foucher have three children: Yann, who has a daughter Marianne and a son Charles; Maud, with husband Luc and children Anaëlle and Tangi, and Marc who has a daughter named Océane. Océane was away and we hope to meet her in the future.

Bex is a little worn out.

At the front is Yann and younger brother Marc played wine steward.

All the beautiful photos in these entries from Bretagne are thanks to Maud.

Madame Foucher made a delicious lamb dinner.

David, chatting here with Marie-Laure's mother, held his own quite well with his French.

Here Marc, who teaches economics, and I are solving all the world's problems.

During dinner, the Easter bells flew over the Foucher's house, a day early. There is no Easter Bunny in France. Instead, there are Easter bells. Church bells are silent as a sign of mourning for one or more days before Easter. This has led to an Easter tradition that says the bells fly out of their steeples to go to Rome (explaining their silence), and return on Easter morning bringing both colored eggs and chocolate candy shaped like eggs or rabbits, that they drop along the way. James and Bex are on the hunt.

We had a wonderful time seeing everyone and hope the Fouchers will visit us, be it in Germany or the U.S.
